The Intelligence Fund
We can't focus on building Machine Intelligence at the expense of Human Intelligence. Public Media is the dataset that enables robust minds and collective purpose. The Artificial Intelligence Community is uniquely positioned to make a difference.
The Need
In July 2025, the American government gave up on Public Media.
Established in 1967, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting was created and funded to address the lack of unbiased information and cultural stories seen as critical to a well informed and engaged citizenry. This was a bold and visionary period that also saw America launch our species from the earth to the moon.
In July, CPB was strategically defunded in a move designed to undermine free access to quality information sources and shared diverse experiences. It left a $500 million annual hole in public programming that affects journalism, education, and cultural content. America, already ranked low on the list of democratic countries that support public media, dropped out completely. We determined it wasn't even worth the $1.60 per citizen we spent. Less than a candy bar.

Our community is uniquely positioned by our understanding of the value of truth and necessity for diversity to see the media gap that will emerge. We understand these ingredients as fundamental in building autonomous systems that are safe, trustworthy and operationally robust. We believe they are a cornerstone of intelligence.
These same values which we use as a blueprint for success are now under direct attack publicly. We should be the first to suspect that the decline of this type of disciplined programming available to the population will lead to the kinds of unproductive behaviors we see in our models. Ungrounded in reality. Unreliable in decision making.
